Many people have or will struggle with falling asleep at some point. Health conditions, weather changes and the stress of daily life can all affect your ability to go to sleep. Whether you enough smokingthings or taking a relaxing bath, you should find at least one thing that can help you get to bed. Then, you won’t have to worry about feeling sleep deprived the next day.

1. Set a Regular Bedtime

One of the easiest ways to start falling asleep more easily is to set a routine for going to bed. Try your best to go to bed at the same time each night, even on weekends. You don’t have to go to bed early necessarily, but you should avoid constantly changing your bedtime. By going to bed at the same time, you’ll be able to train your brain and body to know when it’s time to wind down.

2. Turn Off Your Electronics

When you always have your smartphone with you, it can be easy to stay on it until you fall asleep. But the light from the screen can make it hard for your body to produce melatonin, which is the hormone that helps you go to sleep. If you need something to wind down, try reading a paper book or doing something repetitive that can calm you down.

3. Write Things Down

Sometimes, the stress of your to-do list can keep you from falling asleep. If you find that you tend to think about what you have to do the next day, take out a pen and paper and write those things down. You can look at the list in the morning, and you won’t have to worry about forgetting anything. Then, you can focus on getting to sleep so that you’ll have enough energy to tackle the day.

4. Focus On Your Breathing

As you lay down and go to sleep, try to focus on your breathing. You can use the 4-7-8 method, which is where you breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 7 and breathe out for 8. Counting as you breathe can help you relax, and it can be especially useful if you have trouble breathing as you fall asleep. As you count, you’ll force yourself to focus on that and not your looming responsibilities or the inability to get to sleep.

Falling asleep can be tricky, and for some people, the problem never goes away. But if you can turn off the lights and set a regular bedtime, you may find that you fall asleep much easier.
