With summer well and truly upon us, the question on everyone’s lips – holidaymaker or otherwise – is where they can find the best ice cream in the area. Luckily, we’ve taken one for the team and scoured some of the best locations across Suffolk, to bring you a round-up of the best spots to head for ice cream, within reach of our most popular Suffolk holiday cottages.
Southwold
Named as one of the top ice cream shops in the UK, Harris & James is located in Southwold and boasts some of the creamiest treats which are brought to life with innovative and creative flavours for all occasions.
An excellent example of a business that has done well through the great return to staycations which came about as a result of the pandemic, this ice cream shop has expanded with sites outside of its original Southwold – bringing its fresh flavours to all corners of the Suffolk.
Southwold is also the home of top beer and cider brand Adnams, making it a great day out regardless of which Suffolk holiday cottage you book.
Woodbridge
The beauty of Woodbridge lies in its riverside location, which boasts excellent views over the harbour, and offers a plethora of great walks across the surrounding countryside as well as along the sea wall itself. Located within close proximity of the Sutton Hoo site, which is now a National Trust property that you can visit and learn more about the history of the notorious dig site, Woodbridge is also the site of an exciting longboat project to reconstruct the type of boat that was found at Sutton Hoo.
Now, that’s all well and good, but what about the ice cream? Well, Woodbridge is one of those locations in Suffolk where the environment and surrounding is as good as the ice cream itself – which you can find in one of the small local huts or else pick up from the popular Italian gelato store and restaurant right on the waterfront.
Lavenham
Considered one of the best-preserved medieval towns in the whole of England, there are a great many reasons to visit Lavenham – with The Parlour’s ice cream just one of them. Complimenting the rich hot chocolate that is served during the winter month, the ice cream from this small and quaint shop is exquisite and incredibly creamy. In fact, many of the flavours on offer have won Great Taste awards, paying testament to the quality of the treats on offer.
All that’s left to do here is decide whether you are team cup or team cone.
