Smartphone makers from all around the world have come up with budget smartphones offering quite high-end performance and features. This advancement was all thanks to lesser known brands that wanted to hold a strong footing in this emerging smartphone industry. Now popular brands like Samsung and Motorola are also coming up with price efficient smartphones that offer superior specs. Two such recent launches are the Samsung Galaxy On8 and the Moto 64 Plus. Both of them fall under the same price range and offer some really great features. So which of these devices should make its way to your pocket? Let us find out.
Design and Display
It comes with a plastic body as well along with a metallic frame around it. The removable back cover is however made of rubber which again provides a good grip and looks smart.
Both the Samsung Galaxy On8 and the Moto G4 Plus flaunt superb 5.5-inch full HD displays with each having a pixel density of 401ppi. The On8 has an IPS LCD display whereas the G4 Plus has a Super AMOLED display. Displays of both the devices are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.
The G4 Plus comes with a fingerprint sensor as well.
Processor and OS
The Samsung Galaxy On8 runs on an octa-core, Cortex A53 processor, clocking a speed of 1.6GHz, and is placed on an indigenous chipset of Samsung Exynos 7 Octa 7580. The 3GB RAM and GPU of Mali-T720 MP2 is a boon for multi-taskers and hardcore gamers.
The Moto G4 Plus also comes loaded with an octa-core processor but is seated on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 MSM8952 chipset. The processor is assisted by 3GB of RAM for the 32GB storage variants and 2GB of RAM for the 16GB storage variants and Adreno 405 GPU.
Both of them run on 64-bit architecture with the Galaxy On8 running Android v6.0 (Marshmallow) OS with Samsung’s custom UI, while the Moto G4 Plus runs stock Android Marshmallow as its operating system.
Camera and Storage
The Samsung Galaxy On8 comes with a 13MP primary camera with an LED flash and autofocus. The quality of the camera is further enhanced by features like Back-illuminated sensor, exposure compensation, ISO control, High Dynamic Range mode (HDR), etc.
The Moto G4 Plus on the other hand is armed with a 16MP rear camera with autofocus and dual LED flash. The camera of the G4 Plus is obviously superior with the combination of phase detection autofocus and laser focusing. It also comes with a pro mode that allows tweaking everything from the ISO setting to the white balance super easy. Both the devices are capable of recording FHD videos at 30fps.
Both the devices have 5MP front shooters, with the added feature of wide-angle selfie in the Moto G4 Plus. The On8 does not lag behind and comes with an LED flash for low light images, which proves to be a blessing in disguise for people who love taking selfies.
To cope up with the storage issue, the Samsung Galaxy On8 comes with 16GB of inbuilt storage, whereas the Moto G4 Plus comes in two variants, a 16GB one as well as a 32GB one. Both can be expanded upto 128GB.
Battery and Connectivity
Samsung does not hold back on this device from any angle and has fitted it with a 3,300mAh li-ion battery, which makes sure that the show keeps running for long hours.
The smartphone eradicates connectivity issues with dual 4G SIM slots, Wi-Fi 802.11, b/g/n, mobile hotspot, v4.1 Bluetooth, A-GPS, microUSB 2.0, etc.
The Moto G4 Plus is fuelled by a 3,000 mAh li-ion battery which promises an all day long battery backup. This has been further enhanced by the TurboCharging support which refills battery a lot quicker than the normal charging. Connectivity options included in the smartphone are 4G and 3G connectivity, NFC, Wi-Fi with hotspot, Bluetooth v4.1 and microUSB 2.0.
Conclusion
There is not much of a difference between both the devices it seems. But, for those of you looking for a superior display quality, a slightly faster processor, a good low-light selfie camera and a great battery backup, the Samsung would be the perfect choice. And for those who like to experiment with photography, wants to enjoy the added security of a fingerprint sensor and also require a slightly lighter weight phone, then you may go for the G4 Plus.
