In Class 9, students should be more regular in their studies as Class 10th is board class and its base is Class 9th. The topics of mathematics of Class 9 and 10 are mostly the same, the difference is in the level of difficulty in the chapters. The chapters covered in the syllabus of MATHEMATICS CLASS 9 is as follows:

  • Number System: The topic number system includes irrational no.s, real no.s and its representation over number line and laws of exponents for real no.salong with their decimal expansions.
  • Polynomials: This chapter comprises of remainder theorem, factorization of polynomials, algebraic identitiesand zeroes of a polynomial and polynomials in one variable.
  • Coordinate Geometry:It includes coordinate geometry, cartesian system and plotting of points in the plane is also part of the chapter.
  • Linear Equation in Two Variables: This includes the topics: how to solve linear equations, plotting of graph in two variables and equations of lines parallel to x-axis and y-axis.
  • Introduction to Euclid’s Geometry: It includes Euclid’s description, axioms and postulates. Equivalent versions of Euclid’s fifth postulates are also explained in this chapter.
  • Lines & Angles: The topics included in this are intersecting and non-intersecting lines, pairs of angles, parallel lines and a transversal and angle sum property of a triangle is also included in the chapter.
  • Triangles: This whole chapter revolves around triangle. It explains congruent triangles and its criteria, characteristics of triangle and inequalities in triangle.
  • Quadrilaterals:This chapter explains the various types of quadrilaterals and their characteristics, mid-point theorem and conditions for quadrilateral to be a parallelogram.
  • Area of Parallelograms & Triangles: The chapter includes the topics: various figures, parallelograms and triangles on the similar base and among same parallels.
  • Circles: This topic explains the angle subtended by a chord at a point, vertical from centerto a chord, equal chords and their distance from center, cyclic quadrilaterals and angle subtended by an arc of a circle.
  • Construction: This topic includes basic constructions and formation of triangles.
  • Heron’s Formula: It explains about how to find area of a triangle through Heron’s formula and its application in calculating areas of quadrilaterals.
  • Surface Area & Volume: This includes the calculation of surface area and volume of 3D figures like cube, cuboid, right circular cylinder, cone and sphere.
  • Statistics: This topic comprises of grouping and presentation of data, representation of data on graph and measures of central tendency.
  • Probability: This whole topic explains about the probability and the calculation of probability in various given situations.

All the above topics of CBSE Class 9th mathematics is the base for Class 10th. Students should be consistent in their studies and should practice from the extra study material available in the market. Students should also solve previous year MATHS QUESTION PAPER FOR CLASS 9 to get a rough idea on the type of questions that are included in the exams and prepare accordingly.
