Employee promotion needs serious consideration. You don’t want to push someone up if that person doesn’t deserve the post. You also don’t want to pass a chance to promote a hard-working employee. You won’t only lose the opportunity for a quality promotion, but you could permanently lose a valuable member of the team. The person might feel bad about not getting promoted. It’s crucial to consider these things to guarantee that you have the right person for a higher post. 

Productivity

It will help if you have someone who can do a lot of quality tasks. Check the assigned tasks to see if the employee did them well. It’s even better when you see that the employee did more than what you expected. It shows dedication and the ability to excel. It’s also a sign of initiative. You want someone who can perform tasks without being told to do so. 

Leadership skills

You promote someone that you expect to perform in a leadership role. It shows that the person is capable of leading the team and help in achieving goals. Some skilled employees don’t have leadership capabilities. They might be smart, but they can’t lead others to success. It’s not beneficial for the team. 

You can test the leadership skills of an employee by requesting them to organise a specific activity. For instance, if you intend to do a funfair, you can ask them to do the task. At some point, you will know if someone is loyal to the company. When you promote a person, you’re also going to share company secrets. You want these secrets to stay within the company. If you think the employee has plans to leave any time soon, it might make you think twice about your decision to promote them. 

Take your time to evaluate the candidates for the post. Make sure that you have the right candidates if you want quality results. You’ll also be giving the employee a salary bump. You want to know that it’s worth doing and it will benefit the company in the long run. Create a shortlist of potential candidates and carefully select from that group.
