All About Plastic Pollution – What Can You Do About It?

Planet earth is suffering from plastic pollution. It is a known fact that you can find plastic in every place you go no matter where you are from. One of the biggest contributors to this problem is the use of plastic water bottles or containers. This is the reason why more and more companies and manufacturers do everything to help – by producing eco-friendly, reusable bottles. But why is there a need for this change? What do you need to know about plastic pollution?

Plastic Pollution – What Is It All About?

If you hear your government voicing their concerns about the dumping of plastic waste into the bodies of water and overflowing landfills, that is plastic pollution. In fact, this is one of the main reasons why our many species in the oceans are becoming extinct. Also, plastic is one of the biggest reasons why climate change is not becoming a huge problem all around the world.

How Plastic Can Affect The Environment

You always have to remember that plastic is not biodegradable. This means that once it’s produced and sold to the public, once you bought that bottle of water, it will remain forever. So how many plastic bottles have you purchased, used, and thrown in the garbage bin all your life? That’s how much plastic you have contributed to the environment.

Helping Fight Against Plastic Pollution

If you think that there is no chance to resolve the plastic pollution problem, you are wrong. According to world facts, there are 7.7 billion people all around the world as of 2019. If each one of them would do small changes to help stop plastic pollution, we will be doing planet earth a huge favor. So how can you help put a stop to plastic pollution?

  • Reduce. Do your best to reduce your plastic waste. You can start by using eco-friendly, reusable bottles instead of buying single-use plastic water bottles. Also, you can bring a reusable cotton bag with you if you go grocery shopping or you can buy one from the cashier when you check out.
  • Reuse. Once you started reducing your plastic use and waste, you can begin reusing your eco-friendly and reusable water bottles and containers instead of buying water. If you are going out to get drinks, why don’t you bring your own reusable cup? If you cannot live without straws, buy a reusable stainless steel or glass straw.
  • Recycle. If you still have plastic bottles or other plastic items on hand, do your best to recycle them. Your shampoo bottles can be used as pots for your plants. Your single-use plastic bags can be brought to the grocery store so you can recycle them too.

Yes, Plastic Can Be Recycled

Almost all types of plastics can be recycled. This is the reason why even young children at school are being taught about the importance of recycling plastics. However, facts revealed that of all the plastics that have been produced for the last 60 years, only 9% of those has been recycled. So where did most of them go? To the landfills, bodies of water, or just littering around us. So many things can be done, even in your own little ways, to help stop plastic pollution.
